At some point do folks cope with the fact their parents are getting old and will soon die?
OR
Is it still a shock and total horror that your parents face illness and death when they get into their 70s, 80s, and 90s?

Re: Reconciling parents and death
For me as a kid, it was never on my mind. Until my dog was old and sick and had to be put to sleep. I couldn't understand why we put them to sleep but not humans. And of course didnt want them to put her to sleep. Then my Dads dad died... soon after my moms dad died. So ive always thought about my parents.
But i wasnt aware aware until i moved far away. And i only could see them once or twice a yr. I realized holy fuck i have under 30 visits with them.
But i notice how death is taboo, nobody wants to talk about it and if we do its always serious and has a mood, and we hide it away, and always pushed it far into the future. Its weird because its so natural. Its the order of things, but we are conditioned to think of it in a way.... like someone will say theres nothing funny about death... isnt there? You ever see a dead bug on its back legs straight up in the air like the cartoons? You ever seen a skull?
"Chattering finch and water-fly Are not merrier than I; Here among the flowers I lie Laughing everlastingly No; I may not tell the best Surely, friends I might have guessed Death was but the good kings jest It was hid so carefully"
Lol anyway. I wish we were taught about dying from an early age in a way where we can talk and think about it without getting sentimental and sad, or far too serious.
Its one of the great philosohpical questions, why do we have to wait for our physical death to die?
And then theres the whole idea of attatchment and what it has to do with actual love.

Re: Reconciling parents and death
Got damn, 5 packs a day is about 100 cigs right? That’s about a cig every ten minutes you’re awake lol.
