I talk to my mom everyday. Like when she dies I'm fucking done for. I'm absolutely going to have to put myself in a psych hold or something. I'll be in shaaambles. My dad is going to outlive me, no worries there.
It's a bit dark, but part of the reason I had a second child was because I didn't want one to have to bury me alone. The thought of planning my parents funerals and just going back to work 4 days later is MAD.

Word, stoicism>nohbody wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 3:09 am i had to watch how my parents dealt with their parents death. I was actually in the room to see 3 of my grandparents pass. Whats strange is, they were pretty much numb to it all... more focused on things like funeral proceedings and what to do with all the things they left behind.
think i will be a bit of the same... numb to it. get through the funeral. and knowing me.... i will grieve in private as it hits me. When my first grandparent passed away, i dont think i ever really shed a tear until the first time i went on my own to visit his grave stone. at this point,

Getting to grips with mourning was something I've been prepping for since the age of 3. While my father died almost a decade ago and I buried my mum early this year, I'm unable to fully process their respective passings - but cannot afford the emotional collapse..
Basically, losing parents is the first time in life when we aren't children any longer..

Never really cried at funerals except when I was younger and didn’t understand it only really cried at my grandpas because I had to watch them lower casket into ground we don’t do that too much anymore here my dad said he didn’t want people crying at his funeral we should tell jokes and laugh and shit while telling stories about the stupid shit he did and got to hear some shit he did as a kid I never heard before
Re: Reconciling parents and death
For me it was less shock and horror knowing my dad was going to die because I had things to take care of, including him. When he did die I understood what I'd heard a million times: you will never be ready or prepared. Shit still hit like a baseball bat.

damn I was hoping that was in the past. Hugs to you and the family, especially pops.TheWarchief wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 5:04 pm pops going through some fairly intense chemo right now tbh
I hate it, but the only thing that's on my mind is being there for him and mom

Re: Reconciling parents and death
i'm a daddys girl so my life got flipped upside down
i had never lived a day without him
lots of kids leave their parents and go off and live their own life quite early on in life .. maybe that's created easier detachment
that's never been my life
i never want to live a day where my mom and brother isn't all up in my shit
it's a blessing, i feel loved
