I don’t think pitched up samples ever went anywhere. A lot of white pop stars gravitate towards “trap” inspired elements and the more they retroactively go deeper into those inspirations, they “rediscover” stuff that was done 20 years ago by the likes of Kanye and friends.

Do any black artists ever rediscover techniques used by others 20 years ago or is it purely a white trait?

Now that I think of it

I’ve never in my 38 years seen a black rapper be derivative or creatively bankrupt

I’ve never seen any black artist do it tbh

Like imagine a black kid putting in colored contacts and trying to be slim shady but with a splash of confused Christian sentiments… Would never happen.

I wonder what percentage of the black youth even knows Kanye’s chipmunk era. If I grab a random hood booger out Chicago, can you guarantee he’d even know Kanye is more a producer than a rapper?

but unfortunately i cannot say i made it up completely, theres no way to know for sure if each move i do was influenced by another human but most likely it was. But fortunately i do not care. I dance dope.
